Bill Hybell's Opening talk- Leadership Summit
Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 09:46AM Leadership crisis:
God, I'm frustrated. I'm in a slump.
Leaders move people from here to there. How wonderful it would be if only we could be there. But people- well meaning people would prefer to stay " Here.
1. The first step is not to explain how wonderful there is but how awful here is.
THEN cast the vision.
Before the I have a dream speech MLK he wrote the letter from the Birmingham Jail.
We must let our hearts be broken on what breaks the heart of God!
2. It takes fantastic people to move an organization from here to there.
Character, competency, chemistry, culture
What do we value on our team? Will they fit in our our team. High challenge, a mission, servanthood...
"we don't own a turtle farm"
Do you react to a resignation as "whew" or "oh no..." or "vomit"
3. Mile markers and celebrations.
When people hit the wall... We need mile makers. Refill their vision bucket. Celebrate each milemarker. What keeps people on the journey is that they know there is progress.
There is a 40% differential between an inspired staff member and an uninspired staff member.
4. Whispers from God
You can't get from here to there without hearing from God.
John 10:27. My sheep hear my voice...
Every leader should become an incurable reader of the Bible. God puts thought in our mind that are not our thoughts.
Don't live out the script of someone else's life.
