    these arrows

"As arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of ones youth" (Ps. 127:4, NASB)

    where will these arrows go?
    these firm yet fragile souls
that seek rest in the hallowed
    threshold of childhood . . .
where will the speed and energy find room?
oh Lord, the pain of the hand that releases the arrow.
    where will it soar?
    where will it go?
the fearful task that pierces the heart of the archer . . .
trusting the wind and the purpose of the aim . . .
    yet still wondering,
    aiming,
    stretching,
    steadying,
    hoping,
    trembling,
    releasing.
for we cannot hold an arrow.
it is not meant for holding.
    it is for placing,
    for engaging,
    and releasing.
